AI Dashcams Explained: Distraction, Drowsiness and Video Telematics
How AI dashcams detect phone use, drowsiness and smoking, and how video telematics improves fleet safety and accountability.
A traditional dashcam records video that you only watch after something goes wrong. An AI dashcam analyses what it sees as it happens, so risky behaviour can be corrected before it causes a crash.
Dual-lens devices combine a road-facing camera with an in-cabin camera. Computer vision models look for signs of distraction, drowsiness, phone use and smoking, and the device can sound an in-cab warning while sending the event to the dashboard.
Video telematics links each clip to GPS position, speed and sensor data. When an incident happens you can see exactly where it occurred, how fast the vehicle was moving and what the driver was doing, which speeds up claims, disputes and coaching.
Before rolling out cameras, tell drivers what is recorded and why, follow local privacy rules and use the footage for safety and coaching rather than surveillance alone. Done well, in-cabin AI makes roads safer and protects honest drivers.
